How Masterfold marked the grand opening of Conrad Athens The Ilisian in 2026.
The First Key of Conrad Athens The Ilisian
— A MasterFold Creation —
A City Landmark, Reborn
Conrad Athens The Ilisian symbolises the return of the city’s most iconic landmark. The former Hilton Athens, reimagined as the first Conrad property in Greece and one of the most talked-about hotel openings in Athens this year. With 278 rooms and suites, a resort-style pool landscape, nine dining concepts and a private members’ club, it sets a new benchmark for urban luxury in the Greek capital. Behind the architecture, the design and the service, every physical object a guest touches carries the same standard. This is where MasterFold comes in.

The Brief
As the collaboration with Conrad’s team took shape ahead of the opening, one question kept returning: how does a hotel of this significance welcome the very first people? On April 23rd, Conrad Athens The Ilisian made its debut. The moment called for something equally considered — not a gesture that would be forgotten by the time they reached their room, but one they would photograph, share and keep. The conversation started with a clear vision: a key wall and a souvenir key for each guest. Our role was to take that idea and make it real. Researching the concept, designing the piece, sourcing the right materials and delivering it to the standard the occasion demanded.
The Wall
What took shape was a plexiglass installation with 198 individual hooks, each holding a key for one guest. The wall itself was designed to be photographed: clean, architectural and unmistakably Conrad.
The Key
Each key was a souvenir rather than a functional object. A decorative key with a deliberate vintage character, suspended from a gold-tone chain and attached to a dark recycled leather tag with a gold foil imprint of the Conrad logo and the words “Visitor No. 1.” The vintage feel was intentional: a nod to the building’s own history and a reminder that some things are worth keeping. A souvenir worth carrying home, worth photographing and considered enough to belong in a five-star opening day. An opening happens once. The details around it should be worth the occasion.
More Than Print
The beginning of a hotel’s life is a critical window. Every guest-facing object either earns trust or quietly erodes it. The key wall was one answer to that challenge. What followed across the rest of our collaboration with Conrad Athens The Ilisian was an entire range of pieces built on the same thinking.

The Collection Continues
This is the first in a series of posts documenting that collaboration. In the posts that follow, we will share the full range of pieces crafted for the hotel, from the collections designed for younger guests and four-legged visitors, to the operational pieces that run quietly in the background of every great guest experience. Each one made with the same care as the first key.
